EPS Environmental Ltd has brought together over 50 years experience in the water and waste water industry through the merger of Mallon Environmental and the EPS Group. EPS Environmental Ltd established a single business venture able to draw upon the EPS Process and Mechanical knowledge and Mallon's Electrical, Instrumentation, Communication and Automation experience.
My role within the company has been to tender work and then manage the contracts through the design, procurement, site installation and commissioning phases. As the least experienced of the management board I had time for little else but focusing on matters at hand, tender deadlines, contract demands, suppliers, subcontractors and commissioning dates. I needed to use my time better to focus on the bigger picture - I needed to develop.

Excelus Leaders came as the perfect opportunity to address personal effectiveness issues - working with other professionals from varied business backgrounds who found themselves in situations not dissimilar to my own. Excelus had the answers and over the duration of the programme introduced a number of management tools and mentoring approaches to change the mind set and steer me clear of inefficient management practices.
A central theme in Excelus is that the most important asset of the business is the people within it. Excelus mentors demonstrate how leadership and management growth is achieved through focusing on self awareness and on communication, motivation and coaching.
By taking responsibility to empower others, Excelus taught me how to create an environment for ownership where each person wants to be responsible - moving the leaders away from those day to day responsibilities, which are better dealt with by others within the company.

The programme has taught the 'management of time' approach - to identify what is really important (look at the bigger picture) and has shown me how to create the time to focus all energies on it, therefore adding value to the business.
